Frequently Asked Questions
That is because EVERYONE wants their articles on the front page! We can't do that, because no-one wants to have to scroll down the whole page.... so we put a "teaser" on the front page, and let you click on the title to see the article, schedule, or announcement in its entirety. That way we can get a lot more information on the home page, which gets the most web traffic of the entire site.
Users with accounts have access to parts of the website, content and features that visitors don't. Among other things, account holders are permitted to add comments, participate in forums, polls, and other interactive features, subscribe to certain pages, and in general have a deeper and broader experience while on the site.
Users with accounts will see an option at the bottom of certain pages that will allow them to subscribe to those pages, so they are always aware of any changes. This can be particularly useful for content that changes frequently, like syllabi and other class-related information.
We created this new site mainly because the old one was simply too big, disorganized, and (in some cases) years out of date. Our first step was to move all of the accurate information over to the new site; we are now in the process of filling in the blanks. One of the benefits to the new system is that staff can access the site directly, and so the process of filling in those blanks no longer has to run through just one or two people. But keep letting us know when things are missing, incorrect, or in the wrong place! We want this site to be a positive tool, and your feedback helps us reach that goal more quickly.
A number of the content types in this website -- including, but not limited to, blogs, forums, and some articles -- permit users with accounts to attach comments to them by clicking the "Add Comment" link directly under the article header. All comments are moderated (this means that comments must be approved before they are published... which eliminates gratuitous "spam" or other such annoyances). Comments may be moderated and added nearly immediately or might take overnight to appear -- this depends on human attention, and even technology people are not on line all the time!
